Gov. Herbert Thanks Military Heroes this Independence Day

Gov. Gary R. Herbert called military veterans today to thank them for their service as part of "Call Your Military Hero Day." The governor encourages all Utahns to reach out to military veterans and active duty military personnel this Fourth of July weekend.

"Independence Day is a great opportunity to thank those that protect our Constitution and preserve our freedoms," said Gov. Herbert. "I encourage all Utahns to proactively show their appreciation to veterans and active duty military for their service and sacrifice."

More than 160,000 veterans call Utah home. Currently there are 7,000 veterans who served in World War II, 12,000 in Korea, 46,000 in Vietnam and 56,000 in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Gov. Herbert signed a one-year resolution during the 2014 legislative session designating Thurs. July 3, 2014 as "Call Your Military Hero Day" in Utah. The resolution urged Utah's citizens and military personnel to strengthen bonds of friendship with military veterans and active duty servicemembers.
